Axes

Technology

Blender's iconic monkey has been out there for a while giving people the opportunity to build beautiful things. It allowed me to build this project, it has been one of the most important tools. I then decided to build my own version of the Blender mascot as a tribute to open source software, which is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful ways to distribute tools and make them better. I added intentionally a mistake in the left side of my figure as a reminder for everyone that sees it that nothing is ever perfect and that you just need to keep trying, making it better.

Humanities

In the creation of Adam (Creazione di Adamo), Miguel Angel brings to life the Biblical creation narrative from the Book of Genesis in which God gives life to Adam, the first man. But maybe there was more... Several hypotheses have been put forward about the meaning of The Creation of Adam's highly original composition, many of them taking Michelangelo's well-documented expertise in human anatomy as their starting point. If we look closely at the figure of God we see the following: the brain stem, the frontal lobe, the basilar artery, the pituitary gland and the optic chiasm. This Augmented axis just tries to highlight the fact that regardless of one's personal beliefs we cannot deny the fact that as humans we have used philosophy, literature, religion, art, music, history and language to understand and record our world.

Engineering

For engineering, we understand the following: the branch of science and technology concerned with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures. I want to really emphasize the fact that machines are usually involved when performing any engineering accomplishment. I wanted to give some behavior using a simple sin wave function in order to give some uniqueness of character to the Augmented Engineering Axes.

Maths

Since Blender is made in Pyhton, I wanted to see if I could use some mathematical functions to create unique shapes out of just simple lines. After having done this, I just gave the lines some depth(not solidity because you are not allowed to do that in Blender). This was my final result. Both shapes are using the same mathematical function but with different parameters a,b,c.

we start in a point x,y,z and obtain the newx, newy, newz for a number of times(n) the following way:

PSEUDOCODE: iterate(n){ newx= a*x*y*z newy= b*newx*c newz=newx+newy*c }

Arts

In this utterly artistic figure, I wanted to expose the real meaning behind this entire project. It is composed of a colorful structure that unites each of the 6 axes through 6 triangular metallic shapes. It is conceived to allow you to go inside the structure and look up to see the 6 axes as a unique star-shaped figure.

Science

This atom represents one of the most intriguing questions in Science, maybe something that could change the way in which we perceive the world. I am talking about the quantum behavior of an electron to be in two places at the same time. This model tries to represent quantum behavior through direct interaction. Whenever we think that we understand the shape of the atom as a solid disk around it representing the energy states, with the slightest move the perception in depth of each disk becomes different.

What if we could somehow bring to the physical world some of the concepts that have been of great importance to humanity in a way that anybody could contribute?. We need to go back to Jerusalem to begin to understand the meaning of this project, precisely to Jerusalem's Western Wall(known in Islam as the Buraq Wall). For Muslims, it is the site where the Islamic Prophet Muhammad tied his steed, al-Buraq, on his night journey to Jerusalem before ascending to paradise. The Western Wall is considered holy due to its connection to the Temple Mount.

This ancient and iconic limestone wall built by Herod The Great around 19 BCE remains to our days being a place of peregrination. There is a much-publicized practice of placing slips of paper containing written prayers into the crevices of the Wall. The earliest account of this practice is attributed to Rabbi Chaim ibn Attar, (d. 1743). What if leaving prayers could only be another way of expressing ideas, objectives, inspiration...?

This is where the 6 axes come to use. Placing each of the objects on a certain location for people to go and leave their contribution, either being Technology, Humanities, Engineering, Maths,Arts, Sciences related could be a great way to celebrate the fact that as human beings we have to know that we are in a way responsible for living a life in which we would have to be ashamed to leave without having left a great contribution.

Further Development

Up until today, I have done rigorous research about Augmented reality in IOS platforms using the ARKit to adapt 3d Models built using Blender. For the final purpose of the project, I have also started building an application which would lastly be used by people placing notes in each of the 3d Augmented Axes. The idea behind this is to allow anybody to have places where they can go to in pursuit of inspiration.
